

He is a graduate of The Kinkaid School in Houston and The University of Texas in Austin. He was involved in the Austin Community Gardens and was a founder of a successful Austin restaurant.
At the time of death, he was working at University of the Incarnate Word.
Blake was an avid traveler, a nature enthusiast and an environmental conservationist.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, James and Marian McCarrick and Fletcher and Nettie May Mitchell; and uncles, James M. Martin and Thomas M. Gouger, Jr.
He is survived by his children, Daniel and Melissa; his parents, John K. and Dolores M. Mitchell; brother, Michael S. Mitchell of Houston; sisters, Kathleen M. Hawkins and husband, John of Ingram; Anne Marie M. Gorman and husband, David; Paula M. Welder and husband, Amos; Nancy L. Mitchell and husband, Jesse Bustamante, all of San Antonio; aunt and God-mother, Gloria Gouger Massey; aunt, Mary Martin; aunt and uncle, Dorothy and J. D. Bryant; cousins, Sandhya Gouger, Pamela Gouger, Thomas M. Gouger, III, James Bryan Gouger, Cindy Martin and James Martin; 14 adoring nieces and nephews as well as many long-time friends from Houston and San Antonio.
The family wishes to thank Blake's caregivers, Lupita Blackard and Omar Hernandez.
