

Bruce William Gunkle, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, in San Antonio, TX. Born on June 27, 1941, in Queens, NY, to parents, Milton William Gunkle and Irene Frances James. Bruce faithfully served as the Senior Pastor to the City of Refuge Christian Fellowship for the past 30 years. He was an Apostle that mentored church leadership and his influence had an impact worldwide.
Born in New York and and raised in NJ, he was an accomplished high school and collegiate athlete, a Naval Academy Graduate, and a retired Lt. Colonel from the US Air Force where he served honorably for over 21 years. He was a man of integrity, a loyal friend, a loving husband and father, and a faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Sherilyn Sue Gunkle with whom he shared 55 years of marriage, two daughters; Lisa Weissberg and Theresa Alvarado; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters; Debbie and Susan; and his beloved brother, James with whom he shared a very special relationship and bond. There are countless spiritual sons and daughters that are far too many to mention by name, but all who experienced the love of a father through this great man. Bruce dedicated his time and life to those in need and spent countless hours ministering, teaching, training and mentoring those around him. His mission was to raise up Godly men and women who could be leaders in the church and community to change lives and impact future generations. He was steadfast in believing that with God, all things are possible. He was a glorious man with a pure heart and deeply loved by so many left behind. He was preceded in death by, his parents, Milton and Irene Gunkle.
