'I was so honored to be asked by Irene to be a pall bearer at Uncle Calvins miltary funeral today. He was a HIGHLY decorated gunner that flew with the select Blue Raiders Squadron 117, on a modified B24 Liberator in the Pacific. He was mostly a tail gunner- guys that normally don't live long. The Blue Raiders were feared and talked about on Tokyo radio. To get a taste of what life was like in a B24, see the movie UNBROKEN--or read the book about a true story. I've known Calvin for 30 years, and it wasn't until last year that he told me about the air battles. I wish I had a fraction of the courage, grace and humility he had. GOOD BYE MY FRIEND...It was a an honor and privelge.'

'Thinking fondly of my Uncle Calvin today! Uncle Calvin, married to my dad's sister Irene for 65 years, was ingenious, industrious, accomplished and pretty all around amazing! However, most of all, to me, he was a friend of my dad's. Through the years, I always felt the friendship and humor that they shared. They both liked golfing and it was a good day when they both had their clubs with them and were headed off to the golf course. Uncle Calvin and my dad were both humble Oklahomans at heart and neither liked to call attention to themselves so it's almost hard to remember that Calvin traveled the world for Phillips 66 and that his brother-in-law, Marvin, worked for many years in the tallest "skyscraper" in Corpus Christi for ARCO. They both provided for and cared for their families in all of the best ways. Aunt Irene was a great match for Calvin!'

'Growing up with grandpa Calvin was everything a child could hopeful. He was tough but gentle. Funny but firm. Memories with him around the farm, when life was new and everything was adventure and he was always willing to help us explore. What an incredible legacy he has left of family and loving memories. 'I have great memories of spending time with Aunt Irene and Uncle Calvin. He was always so positive and encouraging as I pursued my career in education. He listened and laughed at my classroom stories and reminded me of them years later. I remember them coming to Corpus Christi for Thanksgiving for several years after retiring. My mother liked for him to carve the turkey because "he really knew how". I enjoyed playing upwards with them both. I am really grateful for his presence in my life. I will miss him.'
