God always hears our prayers, especially when we ask for the healing of a loved one. He responded, and on Thursday morning, September 26, 2024, our beloved mother and grandmother, Camila Sandoval, peacefully followed Him to heaven.
Camila was born on March 20, 1930, in Sabinas Hidalgo, Nuevo León, Mexico, as the oldest of three brothers and four sisters. She took on the responsibility of watching over them, feeding them, sending them to school, and caring for her parents. She worked very hard sewing decorative pillowcases and other items to support her family, acting as a mother to her siblings and providing for their needs. In addition, she learned to bake and create fluffy white frostings for her delicious cakes. On weekends, she would go for walks in the plaza with friends to listen to music and meet other people from Monterrey, Mexico.
Camila met and married the love of her life, Johnny R. Sandoval, in 1952.
Even after marriage, she continued to support her mother and siblings, providing them with clothing and food, new shoes and delicious red apples. When Camila immigrated to San Antonio with her husband Johnny, they initially lived with his parents. In 1954, when Johnny, Jr. was born, they purchased a home close to his parents.
Camilia’s siblings eventually immigrated to San Antonio receiving help from Camila and Johnny, who set a strong example for them. Three years later, Diana was born, and when her children were of school age, she began working at Ace Manufacturing Co., sewing military hats for several years. After leaving that job, she returned to working at home, making delicious meals with a smile. She continued to engage in many activities and became involved with our church, serving as eucharistic minister, lector, and a member of the Guadalupanas at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was elected president of this group, treating all the members as sisters and loving them as such.
As her husband grew older and became ill, she took great care of him until the Lord called him home on Christmas morning in 1996.
Another beautiful example of Camila was her deep faith. As a young lady, she created a small table next to her bed where she kept a picture of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to whom she prayed daily. Attending Sunday Mass and observing special days in the Catholic calendar were very important to her.
Grandma, or Abuelita, as she was affectionately called, was blessed by God with her treasured grandchildren, Theresa Anne, Simon, John Michael, and Joseph Anthony. She was immensely proud of them all and their accomplishments, and they cherished her for the wonderful person she was.
She is survived by her son, Johnny R. Sandoval, Jr. (Domitila); daughter, Diane Sandoval; her grandchildren and sister, Lydia C. Sanchez.
Camila was the matriarch of her entire family, from the Chapas to the Sandovals. We will always be grateful to God for the gift of our mom, grandmother, sister, and friend. We love you and look forward to seeing you and Dad again in heaven.
Our family would like to acknowledge and express our most sincere appreciation to Enhabit Hospice for their loving care, compassion and support to our beloved mother. We are truly grateful for the wonderful experience.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
