

Carl was raised in the Torrance/Lomita area of Southern California where he attended Narbonne High School. While there he excelled in basketball and baseball. After graduating high school, he continued playing Basketball and baseball, lettering at Los Angeles Harbor Junior College and Cal State Long Beach. While at Cal State he earned a bachelor's degree in social studies, and later received a Master of Arts degree from Pepperdine University.
On June 15th, 1956 Carl married his "Pretty Maui Girl" Kathleen Cadinha at St Francis Church in Palos Verdes, California.
After graduating college and serving in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958 at Camp Roberts, California, he began his career in education. Carl was a dedicated teacher at Madrona Elementary and later as a history instructor at Torrance High School. While at Torrance he began his coaching career, football (for a short time), sophomore baseball, JV and Varsity basketball. While at Torrance Carl was Honored with Coach of the Year awards from The L.A.Times, and The Daily Breeze.
When he wasn't coaching at the high school level, Carl served as head coach at Los Angeles Harbor Community College and as an assistant coach at El Camino Community College, Loyola Marymount University, and Pepperdine University. Because of his passion for basketball and teaching, he became a highly respected and loved coach and mentor in the South Bay Area of Southern California.
During retirement Carl enjoyed gardening, golf, watching basketball, and old westerns on TV.
He is survived by his son Scott Strong, daughter Leslie Riggs (Joshua), six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Strong and his brother, Douglas Wayne Strong.
