

Carlos loved playing sandlot baseball as a child. When he was at Christian Junior High School, he would caddy for 50 cents a hole. In 1943, Carlos volunteered for service, entering the Navy at the age of 17 years old. Carlos fought through sea and land at the Battle of Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in the fall of 1946. The Refugio and Maria Antonia Guerra family, had six sons and two daughters. Five sons, including Carlos, were overseas in World War II all at the same time, with another son serving in the National Guard.
After the war, he became a semi-professional baseball pitcher. He worked with the ATF branch of the government and later entered the insurance industry through most of his career before the 1980's. In 1981 through 1993, he was acting golf pro at Casa Blanca County Golf Course. Carlos enjoyed helping children with golf lessons and was also a high school senior league baseball coach for many years.
His most recent accomplishments were attending the Honors Flight to Washington DC with his fellow World War II veterans in September 2014 and in January 2017 Carlos Guerra was inducted into the Latin American International Sports Hall of Fame. He will be lovingly remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather.
Carlos is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Ada M. Guerra; daughters, Adriana G. Herring and husband, Tim, Grizelda Gentry and husband, George; grandchildren, George Gentry, Jr., and wife Kimberly, Jennifer Nicole Calliham and husband, James, James Carlos Gentry, Timothy H. Herring, Elizabeth Rose Bell and husband, Barclay; great grandchildren, Liam Michael Gentry, Reagan Calliham and Riley Quinn Calliham; brothers, Refugio Guerra, Jr., and Guadalupe Guerra.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 17, 2017, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 8134 Blanco Road.

Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Following the interment there will be a reception at Holy Spirit Banquet Hall.

A remembrance mass will be held at Blessed Sacraments Catholic Church 1501 N. Bartlett Ave. Laredo Texas 78043 in memory of Carlos Guerra on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 9:00a.m.
