Carmen R. Hapshie

Carmen R. Hapshie, born January 13, 1917 died July 13, 2008 at the age of 91. She was born to Rosa and Enrique Rodriguez, raised in San Antonio Texas, and married Solomon E. Hapshie on November 12, 1949.

Preceded in death by her loving husband, mother, father, brother Henry, sisters, Rafaela and Evangeline, her niece Lydia Wong with whom she had a special bond, and several close friends most recently Louisa Lozano.

Carmen is survived by her daughter Thelma Hapshie, son Louis Hapshie and wife Mary Jane, grandchildren Angela Hapshie Heitman and husband Tom, Solomon E. Hapshie and wife Teresa, Abraham L. Hapshie and fiance Audra Brown and great-grandson Garrett Michael Heitman. She also survived by her sisters Elvira Vasquez, Bertha Flores, sister-in-laws Angie Rodriguez, Adel Hill and Annie Ayala, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Alzheimer's rendered her unable to continue with her life's passions of sewing, caring for flowers, plants, birds, shopping, visiting with her sisters, and being independent. Progression of Alzheimer's resulted in Carmen living the past five years in the loving home of her son and daughter-in-law where she was cared for with love, respect, and compassion. Carmen was a faithful wife, devoted mother, compassionate grandmother and loving great grandmother.

She will be missed by her entire family.

The Hapshie family wishes to express sincere thanks to Carmen's extended family of care givers; Paula Johnson, Barbara, Sandra Marroquin, Tara Morales, Corina Lott, and Amy Flores of Amed Hospice to whom much gratitude is owed.

We would like to thank Dr. G. Salman for taking such good care of her through this difficult time. Many thanks to Rosie's Home Health Care and Girling Home Health are for providing staff to help care for Carmen during the day.
