

Carol Louise Russell passed away Wednesday May 4, 2022, peacefully surrounded by her children. Carol was in born on May 13, 1937, in Los Angeles to R.S. (Stan) Babcock and Nevilla Claire Babcock. She moved with her parents to Pocatello Idaho and later to Bountiful Utah where she graduated from Davis High School in 1955. Later that year she married her high school sweetheart Lt. Col (Ret) G.E. Secrist. She moved numerous times with her four young children finally settling in San Antonio Texas in 1972.
She remarried in 1983 to James C. Russell with whom she shared a passion for travel and adventure. First in Jim’s small private plane and later in their motorhome with their beloved Airedales (Tilley, Millie, then Lilly) they traveled extensively visiting family and friends and pursuing their shared interest in boating, skiing, fishing, and hiking.
Carol was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in numerous callings supporting her fellow brothers and sisters. Carol was proudly employed as a recruiter at Sea World meeting many dear and lifelong friends. She later worked for the Northside Independent School District as an aid for Special Needs Students touching the lives of hundreds of students until her retirement at age 80.
Carol is survived by her husband Jim, her children Ted Secrist (Sandy), Susan Phelps, Michele Swenson (Rick), and David Secrist (Julie), Jim’s children Ruth Shafer (Louis), James Randal Russell (Lyn), and 19 Grandchildren, and 30 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother (2003) and father (1983), sister Joyce Robinson (2021) son Ricky Secrist (1957), and grandson David Aaron Fisher (2019).
Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 9626 Adams Hill Drive in San Antonio on Saturday May 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. preceded by the viewing at 9:30 a.m. and followed by the graveside dedication at Sunset Memorial Park.
