

Carole Lee Austin, affectionately known to many as “Ginny,” passed peacefully from this life intoeternal life on Saturday, November 25 2023, greeted in heaven by many family and friends. She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband Dr. John A. Austin, her loving parents Dorothy and CJ Dickerson, and younger brother Jerry.
Carole was born in Amarillo, Texas on September 14, 1941 where she spent half of her life. Shewas a wonderful and dedicated mother to her five children, always setting an example of hard work,integrity, character and forgiveness. Carole was very artistic and worked as an art designer for Webb Frame and Art Gallery for many years. She married her husband, John, in 1978 and relocated to San Antonio in 1983 when John left private practice to become an educator and Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Texas San Antonio Dental School until his passing in 1990.
Carole is survived by her daughter Tracy Holmes and her husband Dr. Jip Holmes, son RobertSmith and his wife Tara, daughter Paige Aiken, son James Smith and his wife Dana, and son Dr. JoshuaAustin and his wife Dr. Andrea Janik. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Kelsey McManusand her husband Zach, Dr. Cameron Holmes and his wife Katie, Gabrielle Smith, Chloe Smith, MeganSmith, and Makynna Smith. Carole is also survived by her most adored great-grandchildren Cooper andEleanor McManus, as well as her childhood friend Janie Weatherly.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Shavano Park SeniorLiving who have loved her dearly for the last seven years. Also, with a grateful heart, a big thank you toall the staff at Guiding Light Hospice, especially her nurse Pat and her chaplain Jack. To the family’s circle of friends who loved “Ginny” as their own– there are no words to thank you enough for your love, prayers, and support these last difficult months.
We will miss Mom “Ginny” in the days, weeks, months and years ahead but will carry her love and beautiful smile in our hearts forever!
