Carolina was born July 31, 1920 to Aurelia (Lela) and Miguel Oyervides. She was their first born child, and the only daughter of their five. She was an ageless beauty. Carolina (Carrie) was born, raised, educated, and created a long and prosperous life in San Antonio, Texas. She attended Fox Tech High School and then graduated from Cosmetology School. In 1939, Carrie was briefly married and bore a son, Richard Rogelio (Roger) Morales, who was legally adopted by Jim. While attending a New Year’s Eve party at Kelly Air Force Base, she met the love of her life, James (Jim) Joseph Breheny. Six months later, on July 4, 1952, they were married. Jim was a member of the USAF, at the time, and was newly assigned to Hawaii for 3 years. While in Hawaii, they birthed their first born child, Patricia. Thirteen months later, Michael was born. In 1955, just before Michael’s birth, they returned to San Antonio, Texas. Soon after their return to Texas, Carrie began working as a hairdresser at the Majestic Beauty Salon. Jim, Carrie, and their 3 children lived with her mother for 3 months until Jim declared that he didn’t want Carrie to work outside the home. Carrie loved her work but respected her husband’s wishes and so they reached a compromise that spawned a successful home-based business for almost 57 years. Jim and Carrie bought a home on the South side, near Lackland Air Force Base, where he was stationed. Their new home was fully equipped with a built-on beauty salon and there, they raised their three children and educated them at St. John Berchman’s Catholic School. Carrie’s clientele became an integral part of her life. Over the years they weaved memories of child births, marriages, milestone events and challenges in their family’s lives. Their loyalty to each other, and her care for them, remained ardent and true up until her death. As her clientele aged, and were unable to drive themselves to her, she would pick them up, bring them to her salon, and then drive them back home. She even went so far to visit them in their Assisted Living facilities to do their hair! Carrie was a devout Christian and an active member of her congregation. She was involved in a ladies prayer group for many years and remained so until her death. She was also a member of the church choir group. Praying was a constant in her life. Carrie became renowned for her prayer list. Friends and family often called her to request that they be added to her list as it appeared she had a direct line to the Lord. Often, she quoted parts of scriptures and believed in the profound power of prayer. One of Carries many talents was her ability to listen. She’d look at you straight in the eye and there was never a doubt that she completely understood. She was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, James (Jim) Joseph Breheny. Carrie was taken by her dear Lord on Monday, November 5, 2012, in the quiet and peace of her slumber. Surviving are her children Roger (Leticia), Patricia, and Michael. Grandchildren are Mark (Whitney), Andrew, David and Elaine Breheny, and three great-grandchildren, Christian Cozart, Rhiannon and Haylen Breheny, and her sister, Emma Leal. Visitation will begin at 2pm, Thursday, November 15th at Trevino Funeral Home, followed by prayer services, led by Deacon Kenneth Nickel, at 7pm. Chapel services will be held on Friday, November 16th, at 11:30 am, with graveside services at 1:00pm, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
