Carrie Humphrey passed away April 26th, 2024, in San Antonio, TX at the age of fifty-one. She was born Carrie Lynn Vander Meulen in Red Deer, AB, Canada July 25th, 1973. Carrie’s life took her many places. From her hometown in Red Deer all the way south to Beebe, Arkansas. Then back again a few times before landing in San Antonio. Bringing her family every step of the way.
Besides her family she also brought her extensive love of horror movies. A variety of crafts and hobbies, many of which still live in the closet and dressers of her room. She loved music, everything from Pink, Prince, and Melissa Ethridge to Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and Tragically Hip.
Despite all these passions, she always put them aside to make time for the people she loved. Whether it was having a friend to talk to at any hour of the day. Or driving ten hours just to be there when someone needed her most. Carrie loved raising her kids and grandchild. She loved trips and vacations big and small. She might complain about something along the way but then talk about it for years to come. Carrie was FROM Canada and made sure every single person she encountered knew that.
There are many happy memories Carrie held onto tightly in her heart. A lifetime of caring and loving. Of fighting for what she believed in. Of learning everything and anything she could. Of earning wisdom every step of the way. There is much she will miss. Fortunately, she has left those she loved with some important lessons.
Surround yourself with people you love and who love you. Cherish every moment because family is all that matters in the end. Face every obstacle with confidence. Fake it ‘till you make it if you must. Forgive yourself when you fail and forgive others when they do too. Everyone deserves a second chance. When it’s your time. Meet in heaven all those you loved who went before you. That’s where Carrie is now. Watching over us all as we keep paying it forward.
Carrie Humphrey is preceded in death by her mother Charlene and Bruce Lypke. Her father-in-law Warren Humphrey. As well as her Gram Cathy Hodgson. She is survived by and will be missed by her husband and partner in crime Rodney Humphrey. Her children Jordan Goodeye (Stephanie) and Isabella Humphrey. As well as her heart and soul, aka granddaughter Dylan Goodeye. She is also survived by her father Hank (Karen) Vander Meulen. Her mother-in-law Dorothy Humphrey. Her brothers Steven (Shannon) Vander Meulen, Daniel Vander Meulen, and Nathan Lypke. Her sisters Stevie Zender and Zenna Liber Scovel. Carrie’s Auntie Cheryl Hodgson Whitman (Mitch), a lifelong best friend and sister in her own right.
To end it here would be a disservice to the memory of Carrie. Beyond her immediate family there were many people surviving Carrie, who she loved with every inch of her heart. Her Vander Meulen nieces and nephews who she loved and kept up with. Her Hodgson family all reached out and shared in the heartbreak of losing her and the memories they had growing up with her. The Humphreys welcomed her into their family after meeting Rod and cared about her every step of the way. The Goodeyes who remained her friends through it all. Her children’s friends who she often treated just as well as her own. The friends she met in every city she loved and spoke of each and every day. Needless to say, there are numerous people who loved Carrie and now say goodbye to her. Her memory lingering in our hearts and carving a space in their minds for eternity to come.
