Catherine McVee Chamberlain, lovingly known as "Rena," passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, in Helotes, Texas, at the age of 78. Born on April 11, 1948, in Edinburgh, Scotland, she was the cherished daughter of Agnes Rankin Black and Myles Shanley and was lovingly raised by her stepfather, Thomas "Tommy" Thomson.
Rena was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 56 years, Edmund G. Chamberlain; her daughters Rachel D. Chamberlain and Heather L. Chamberlain; and her sisters Isobel A. Voskerjian and Margaret "Wee Margo" Thomson. She is survived by her children Catherine M. Kremer, Sheena A. Morillo (Wally), Ian R. Chamberlain, Craig T. Chamberlain, and Aaron S. Chamberlain; her brother Patrick T. Thomson of Canada; eight grandchildren—Andrew Sands, Richard Chamberlain (Nicole), Phillip Hardin (Samantha), Derek Kremer, Victor Morillo, Christopher Chamberlain (Stephanie), Lauren Salinas (Rene), and Salomon Chamberlain-Ramirez—and nine great-grandchildren: Eli, Reid, Max, Jake, Delilah, Christian, Andrew, Azreilla, Adenine, and Angel. Her extended family spans the United States, Canada, Australia, England, and Scotland.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1961, Rena lived by the guiding principle: “I just want to be kind and loving.” Married at 16 in 1964 and later divorced in 1968, she found lasting love with Ed when they married in 1969. Their marriage was sealed for eternity in the Calgary Alberta Temple in 1975.
As a military wife who embraced travel before settling in San Antonio after Ed’s retirement, Rena discovered a passion for painting at age 63 that brought joy to her life and others’. She also enjoyed quilting and crocheting baby blankets for her grandchildren while sharing her love through cooking and baking.
Lovingly cared for by her daughter Sheena and son-in-law Wally during her final days, Rena’s warmth and light will forever shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest eternally in peace surrounded by love.
A visitation will take place at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, May 28, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
A committal service will begin at 2:00 p.m., at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
