

Charles Edward Ahrens, Sr., age 82, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016. He was born on March 10, 1933 in San Antonio, Texas to Harry and Thelma (Tezel) Ahrens. Charles served in the San Antonio Fire Dept. for 33 years. He was dedicated to his family and a friend to all. Known as a quiet and gentle man, he was dependable, loving and loyal. He was very talented at woodworking and loved playing his harmonica. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Audrey Boezinger. Charles is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 60 years, Beverly Ahrens; his children, Annette Coen and husband, Cliff, Laura Merritt and husband, Chuck, Charles Ahrens, Jr. and wife, Beatrice; grandchildren, Cliff Coen, Jr., Jason Coen, Sarah Merritt, Elijah Merritt, Alana McCabe, Aidan McCabe and wife, Kimberlee, Kristen Ahrens and Matthew Ahrens; sisters, Ruth Moorman and companion, Bob, June Davidson and husband Buddy; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Interment following in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. San Antonio Fire Dept. Chaplain A.D. Smoot will officiate. Following the interment, a reception will be held at Northwest Church of Christ – beside the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Burned Out Survivors Fund of San Antonio, 1135 W Woodlawn Ave, San Antonio, TX 78201 or to the Fire Department Museum of San Antonio, 801 E Houston St, San Antonio, TX 78205.
