Well, after high school it was time to start looking around for a college to attend. For reasons not likely understood by anyone else in the family, I chose the University of Oklahoma. I was excited about the prospect of moving away to go to college and being out on my own. That excitement turned to horror when I realized that I was going to have to tell my grandfather where I had chosen to attend college. I remember telling Papa that I had chosen to go to the Univeristy of Oklahoma. He just looked at me and said, "Well, what the hell do you wanna do that for?" How do you answer that? In the end, he seemed okay with it...we were able to chat a lot about our teams' rivalry throughout the years. And I know he loved me every day of my life except for that one certain weekend in October every year... Papa also recently expressed interest in skydiving. He said that he wanted to try it for his 100th birthday. Well sadly, his fall in November prevented him from doing so. But I had the chance to try it a few weeks ago. The entire way up in the plane and the entire trip back down to earth, I thought of him. He would have loved it. I love you and I'll miss you, Papa.

My beloved grandfather lived a life that very few people in the history of mankind have experienced. Although alot of people have lived 100 years or a little more, the changes between 1905 and 2005 were more than a lifetime...what a century! 
 After someone has passed away, eventually a friend or family member will say," he lived a full and happy life". To say that about Papa would be an incredible understatement. The man played golf until he was 99!...we should check and see if Lance Armstrong is somehow related! 
 My fondest memories of Papa are his passion for sports which I inherited, especially golf and his our beloved Texas Longhorns! When I saw him in May he told me that the Rose Bowl was one of the highlights of the century. I am proud to be a part of the family that he created, teaching my father and eventually me us the proper family values needed for a happy and fruitful life.

It was with great sadness that I read of the death of my dear neighbor. Having lived next door to Mr. Clark for 10 years at the Hill, it created a real void when he had to move. All of his friends will miss him very much and our putting contests will never be the same!

...a man we knew only for a short time, but during that time he was an inspiration to us. He was loving, kind and very pleasant to be around. We will miss him at his family gatherings.

John and Carolyn, We were saddened to learn of your loss of John's father. You and your family will be in our prayers and thoughts.

I am touched by Charles Clark?s passing he was a friend of mine over the past 14 years I have known him. Easy to talk to, a man of few words, a good sense of humor and a ever ready smile. He used to walk a lot every day, sometimes a mile or two. Prior to the ?Village being built he would hike through the brush over to Madison Oak and I would see him walking along Stone Oak Parkway all the way up to Knights Cross. He kept up with all the construction progress thru the years and would point out and comment to me as we had breakfast together. He always brought his own coffee cup. Quite the golfer, at 95 he told me he shot his age? One the last times I saw Charles walking thru the property, I was driving my 1937 La Salle and I honked got out and open the door and gave Mr. Clark several turns around Independence Village and The Hill. He got quite the kick out of it? What a great guy I will miss him..

I was sad to learn of Mr. Clark's death. He certainly had a long and active life, and that must give you a measure of comfort. My mother died on June 10th, so I can offer first hand sympathy for what you are going through. Take care.

Mr. Clark was our good friend and neighbor for several years when we lived across the street from him and his sweet wife, Marian, on Geneva Circle in Austin. He was a wonderful man who we will never forget.
