

Charles "Charlie" Matthews, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 in San Antonio. He was born in Refugio, Texas on November 15, 1931. He attended four colleges including, Texas A&M, University of Texas-El Paso and Del Mar College at Corpus Christi receiving numerous degrees in Geology and Sciences. Charlie is a veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Air Force. He worked for 30 years at Monarch Logging Company as a geologist and, later, he worked at Kelly AFB as a physical scientist receiving numerous awards.
Charlie had a quick wit and was always ready with a snappy comeback. His infectious laugh will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Charles is survived by his wife of 41 years, Millie Matthews; daughter, Amy Armstrong and husband, Brandon; two grandsons, Chase and Carson; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and extended family members. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 10, 2015, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
