

While born in Princeton, IN on May 16, 1949, Charles “Chuck” Scholz grew up in Illinois. He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School, where he was valedictorian and a national merit scholar. At 6’6” and over 275 pounds, he was an outstanding three-sport athlete and was Illinois State Champion in wrestling. He capped his high school career being captain or officer of various teams and organizations.
Chuck graduated in 1971 from Michigan State, receiving a B.A. with honor and also received J.D. with honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 1984.
He practiced law in San Antonio where he was AV-rated and, until retirement, board certified in Civil Trial Law, a certification of which only about 800 lawyers in Texas currently hold.
Chuck enjoyed singing and was a regular soloist at Grace Fellowship Baptist Church, where he was a member at the time of his death.
He is survived by his son Charles W. Scholz, Jr. and wife Kyla, and grandsons Logan Charles Scholz and Carter William Scholz; his son James W. Scholz; his brother Joe Scholz and wife Anne; nephews Shawn Scholz, James Scholz and wife Shari, Joseph Scholz, and John Scholz; and nieces Erin Scholz and Hannah Scholz. Also surviving him are close friends and extended family, with whom he maintained close relationships.
