He entered this world in his own way (“Charlie style”) on June 5, 1979, at Darnell Army Community Hospital in Ft. Hood, Texas, to Charles W. Seldon Sr. and Venus M. Lewis. He was christened as an infant and under the spiritual leadership of Pastor Gary Patterson of Berean Baptist Fellowship Church, Charlie was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.
He spent his early childhood in Killeen, Texas, before moving with his mother and siblings to San Antonio in 1987. After graduating from high school in 1998, Charlie joined the U.S. Army, serving as a Patriot System Repairer. Upon returning home to San Antonio, he reconnected with Roxanne Peña. Together, they raised Renee, whom Charlie adopted as his own, and welcomed two children, Aloni (2004) and Devon (2005). Later, Charlie married Elizabeth Hernandez, and in 2017 they were blessed with twin girls, Madelyn and Charlie. As a devoted single father, Charlie treasured every moment with his children and poured all his love into their lives.
Charlie was a natural-born mechanic with a passion for cars. For him, it wasn’t about the money; it was about pursuing his passion and fulfilling his purpose in helping others. Known as the “go-to” mechanic in his community, Charlie could diagnose a car simply by listening to it drive around the block. He considered himself a master mechanic, and there was nothing he could not fix. From repairing broken parts to creating car show-winning vehicles, you could call Charlie to do it all.
Traveling with his brothers, Brian and Michael, his son Devon, and his nephews Xavier and Sean Paul, Charlie proudly showcased his work at car shows all across Texas. Their car club, Crowned Legacy, founded by his brother Brian, earned countless awards and accolades. Among all the vehicles he worked on, Hondas were his favorite. No matter how many cars he owned, there was always a Honda in the driveway. Above all, Charlie made sure his family had reliable vehicles, caring for them the way he cared for people: selflessly and completely.
Over the past six years, Charlie and his brother Michael grew inseparable as brothers and as friends. After the loss of their oldest brother Brian in May 2019, their bond deepened with one strong commitment: “I Am My Brother’s Keeper.” Together, they lived that every day.
Charlie loved to laugh, tease, and joke, especially with his sister Jasmine, whom he loved to playfully antagonize. His smile was unforgettable, and his laughter was contagious. Generous to the core, Charlie would give his last dime or the shirt off his back to anyone in need. If you were hurting, he could feel it and would carry that pain with you.
Charlie touched many lives. To meet him was to know someone who cared deeply for others.
Charlie was proceeded in death by his brother, Brian K. Seldon, his paternal grandparents, maternal great grandparents, and one of his favorite uncles, Darryl W. Lewis.
He is survived by his children: Renee Quevedo (Timothy), Aloni Seldon, Devon Seldon, Madelyn R. Seldon, and Charlie M. Seldon; grandsons, Maxwell and Emery Quevedo; his mother, Venus Greenfield (Ronald, Pastor); his father, Charles W. Seldon Sr. (Ester); siblings, Michael A. Seldon and Jasmine N. Foster (Michael); his maternal grandparents, Fannie Lewis and Morris Lewis (Katherine); his beloved “aunty-cuz,” Toishann Baker (Luther); and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
Visitation will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary (1101 McCullough Ave.) on Friday, August 29, 2025, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. (noon) and will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person. The repass will be held at E. T. Dixon UMC (6060 Hwy 87 East) immediately after.
Charlie’s wish for cremation will be honored, and his ashes will be spread across the ocean so that he may travel the world as he dreamed. His family finds comfort in imagining him laughing, joking, and watching over them as their angel alongside his brother Brian and all who’ve gone before them.
