Dale was born to Carl and Eunice Wilhelm in Olney, Texas in 1944. He was the second of three boys who grew up in the oil fields of Texas. He married his high school sweetheart, Sherry, whom he met while attending Stamford High School in Stamford, Texas. He was a proud member of the US military serving multiple deployments in Vietnam. He was an accomplished marksman and was most proud to have earned the Distinguished Rifleman’s badge among many others during his military career. He was a small arms instructor for the Air Force and enjoyed teaching new troops. He always instilled the idea that every gun is loaded every time, don’t point at it unless you want to kill it, follow the range rules and if you ever find yourself down range, remember to duck! He retired as a captain from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service.
Dale loved Bulldogs and spent years raising and showing beautiful bullies as a member of the San Antonio Bulldog Club. His greatest joy however was playing the role of “Pop Pop” to his three grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Sherry Wilhelm; daughter, Lavena and son in law Eric; son, Dale W.; little brother, Jimmie Neal; three grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
