'Having just heard of Chris' passing from her mother Elaine, I am fondly but sadly remembering our summer days together in Lake Tahoe when we were young, imaginative, and mischievious. Where you would find one, the other was within a hand whistle away. Chris was always the leader but I pretended to share the role. I never let on how my days would never be the same if she were not by my side. She was a gift to me early in life. She gave more than she ever expected in return. My love and thoughts go out to family and friends.'

'Beth Lenyo-McNett emailed me the information on Chris' death. We also followed up with a long memory filled, laughter filled moist eyed conversation, but I was so sorry to receive the news. It hit me like a ton of bricks. Her strength and courage in her battle do not surprise me. Chris was a couple of years younger than I am so it's a reminder of God's gift of each new day.

'During our childhood the family gatherings during the holidays were always so special. Chris went away to school and we did not see much of each other. As fate would have it, we would end up living in the same apartment complex. During which time I met some of her close friends and she met mine. We had so much fun doing a lot of parting, but never got in trouble. Chris was full of wit and had a great personality. Everyone loved being around her. I remember the day Chris left for the Peace Corps and seeing her off at the airport. I was sad to see her go, yet I was so proud. It was a wonderful adventure for Chris. She met the man of her dreams, John, who later became her husband. I remember the last time I saw Chris and meeting her precious Granddaughter, Mary Elaine. I was blessed to have Chris both as a cousin and friend. I love and miss her so much.'

'Chris, I never dreamt that when I saw you last February in San Antonio that it was going to be last time. We were friends for over thirty years. You were my roommate and confidant in our "postgraduate" years in Sacramento, California. We had lots of adventures like traveling in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico. We had fun, fun, fun, together. We enjoyed playing games and charades and cards. You were a bridesmaid in my wedding and I am Anna's Godmother. These memories I will treasure forever. You helped me to take life more lightly and less seriously than I would have without you. Thank you for being my friend and touching my life.'

'Chris we've called eachother Egghead ever since college is my dear, dear friend who I miss so very much. It is still almost too devastating to believe that I can't call her on my cell phone Saturday mornings as I take my morning walk. Chris's high energy, risk taking spirit will be with all who knew her. She was hilarious, witty and so bright and so much a part of my life since we were 18. I am so thankful that I saw her last summer in Mexico. We had such a great time and she was really her old self. My thoughts and prayers are with John, Anna, Elaine and Ray, Claudia and little Mary Elaine as we all try to make some kind of sense out of this tragedy. Egghead, I think about you all the time and have been sharing memories with Cindy Pease and Bethy as we all come to grips with our devastating loss. I love you.'

Please accept my condolences and deepest sympathy for the loss of Chris and Emily. Although I have not met you, I am writing as a friend of Ray and Elaine Corum?s, here in Sacramento.

'I have known the Corums - Ray and Elaine, Claudia and Chris - ever since I was a boy during Summers at Marla Bay, Lake Tahoe. Some of my best memories are of that time. I count the Corums as my oldest and best friends. They would always generously share their house, beach and waterski boat. We have been close ever since.

'We have had the pleasure of knowing Ray, Elaine and Claudia for over 20 years and met Chris and Emily and their family on one very delightful occasion when they visited Florida. I had a wonderful time staying with Ray and Elaine on one of my visits to Sacramento and won't forget their kindness and hospitality and how fun they were to be with. We are deeply saddened that they are enduring the loss of both a daughter and granddaughter and send them our love and prayers. Having a daughter the same age as Emily Rachael with such a similar outlook and personality, in some way made the news of Emily's death especially sad for us. Chris's courageous battle with cancer reminded my wife of her own sister's battle with breast cancer several years ago.

'Chris was kind enough to play tennis with her mom's old friends. It was wonderful for us oldies. She was a delight. Her interests in tennis, Spanish, and family gave her a full and meaningful life. She set a standard for us all.'

'It's difficult to find words to offer comfort in the loss of both Chris and Emily. These are the only I can think of, and they are not mine, but those of Richard Dawkins:

'Sometimes, if we're lucky, we meet someone who makes our lives better, not only because they bring out the best in us just by being with them, but also because they show us--without ever trying--how important it is to make the most of every minute, to squeeze the most out of the present. 
That was Chris.'

'Dearest John, I did not meet Chris until they assignmed me to her at JMHS in August. But - it was as if I had known her all of my life. We had many laughs at lunch and throughout those last months! She was a sweet and kind person. I enjoyed her so much that at lunch I told her of my desire to go into real estate and she was kind enough to invite my husband \and I to her home. She was so gracious, despite being ill. We met with both you and Chris. I will always cherish those moments and my last lunch with her. We laughed and cried. Please stay strong. 'February 11, 2005--Hearing about Chris today, I filled with sorrow and disbelief. Chris and I shared many times of laughter at Wylie High School, especially in a seemingly endless number of committee meetings. Her clever notes made these times entertaining for me, and her fascinating stories helped to make our teaching time pleasant. Her storytelling skill was a gift; furthermore, I enjoyed being one of her friends with whom she shared this gift. I will miss her, and her family members are in my prayers.

'I taught at Wylie High School with Chris from 1991-96. I smile whenever I think about her and some of the great conversations we had. She was such fun! One summer my husband and I visited Lake Tahoe; Chris told me about living there as a child, and it was so evident that she had loved it. What a wonderful and knowledgeable teacher she was. Her students were very fortunate.

'Mrs. Zukowski had such a tenacity for life. She was my Spanish teacher throughout high school. Honestly, her name has come up frequently when reminiscing with friends. She was a person who epitomized the important things in life....humor, compassion, and fun. I will surely miss her.'

'Two of my children were fortunate enough to have Ms. Zukowski as their teacher. I met her at parent-teacher conferences and appreciated her openess and total dedication to inspiring her students. She DID inspire, too, and not just with her instruction, but with her total spirit.
