Clark Gilbert Gilmore, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully at home on November 25, 2024 at the age of 84. Born on October 4, 1940, in Blythe, California, but spent his childhood in Leavenworth, Kansas, Clark led a life filled with love, much laughter, dedication and a service to his country and family.
Clark’s early years were full of fun and adventure. We all loved to hear the story, the way he told it best, of how he, along with 3 school cohorts, blew a hole in his leg with a stick of dynamite attempting to create a volcano at the top of a dirt pile when he was only 14. His excitement for life continued as he drove drag racing cars alongside his father, George as part of the SRCA. He was a proud member of his high school ROTC Shooting Team, where he earned the prestigious Randolph Hearst Award. His commitment to service continued as he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served as an Air Traffic Controller and a member of the Competition Rifle Team, traveling cross country for meets and demonstrations, from 1960 to 1964.
After his military service, Clark enjoyed a brief stint in law enforcement, serving as a police officer in Beaumont Texas, where he did not, unlike his partner, shoot a hole in the floor of the police car. His drive for adventure led him to his next career choice in the trucking industry. He began working for Gulf Oil in the late 1960’s, continuing until his retirement from Yellow Freight and the Teamsters in 2003. Even though his trucking days had come to an end, he continued working with Marcia and A-AAA Key Mini Storage, a job he began with her in 1976.
In March, 1976, Clark was introduced quite by surprise to Marcia and her young daughter Michelle, the most ultimate of blind dates, arranged by Clark’s mischievous mother and solidified by Marcia’s daughter. Invited to see new puppies, in no time Michelle crawled into his lap, took his face in her hands and asked him if he was going to be her new daddy. The rest, as they say, is history! This meeting marked the beginning of a 48 year marriage that became the ultimate example of love, trust and partnership. Together Clark and Marcia blended a family built on mutual respect, laughter and unwavering support. There was not a day that he did not make her laugh and their marriage was a model of enduring love, to the very end. A love that was always admired and a perfect example of what marriage should be.
Clark is survived by his devoted wife and full-time care giver, Marcia; children Kelley (Eric), Brian (Tara) and Michelle; and grandchildren Garrett, Jordyn, Rachel, Gabby and Riley. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who cherished spending time with his family, offering wisdom, kindness, and the best sense of humor. Clark’s uncanny ability of storytelling and humor captivated the attention of everyone in the room, lightening up everyday life and filling the air with roaring laughter that will be terribly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
Clark peacefully passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, surrounded by those who loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, honor, commitment and so much laughter. He will be remembered for the deep affection and care he gave his family and friends. He was a man who lived his life to the fullest and leaves behind a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Clark and his legacy after the holidays, date to be determined. In lieu of sending flowers, Marcia would like to request individual time spent with anyone who would like to share their memories of Clark with her, either by phone or in person. Donations can be made to the Parkinson’s foundation.
