Clyde is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Doris. Clyde was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A member of the Greatest Generation, Clyde piloted B-24s with the 307th Bomber Group of the 372nd Bomber Squadron, 13th AF in the Pacific during World War II. At the end of the War, he returned to San Antonio where he met and married the love of his life, Doris Riley, and the two of them started their close-knit family. He attended Trinity University and then went on to St. Mary's Law School where he earned his L.L.M. and subsequently founded the law firm of Johnson & Christopher, where he worked until his retirement. He was also an adjunct professor at St. Mary's Law School for over 30 years.
Clyde was also a proud and active member of two fraternal orders for pilots and flying enthusiasts: the Order of the Daedalians and Order of the Quiet Birdmen.
In addition to Doris, Clyde is survived by: his son, Russell Johnson and his wife Debra Crosby of Austin; daughter Elizabeth Smith and her husband Stephen Smith and granddaughter Ashley Elizabeth Smith of Austin; granddaughter Laura Johnson Heikes, her husband Kevin Heikes and great-granddaughters Anna Heikes and Leah Heikes of New Braunfels; granddaughter Amy Anne Johnson of Austin; and grandson Gregory Russell Randall Johnson of San Antonio.
Clyde will be remembered by his family and many friends as a great story teller with a wonderful sense of humor. He will always have his place at the head of the table at family dinners, where he presided over so many gatherings and always lively discussions. His family will never forget the laughter and the love they all experienced at those occasions and throughout their lives with him.
The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to the staff members of Vitas Hospice, who provided Clyde with such compassionate care during his illness.
