Kenneth Cardell Lingle was called home on November 22, 2023. He was born on April 3, 1935, in Oglethorpe County, GA. to Wilburn and Annette Turner Lingle. After growing up in the small country town of Faith, N.C. he graduated from Catawba College with a BBA degree in accounting and soon after starting a career in the banking industry found himself drafted into the U.S. Army. Although he complained he would have to spend an extra day in the Army since he was drafted during a leap year, he went on to spend nearly 29 years in an Army uniform. By virtue of his education and experience, he applied for and was awarded a direct commission as a 2/LT in the Finance Corps. After serving three years in the Finance Corps, he applied for and was accepted to branch transfer into the Medical Service Corps. He served as a Medical Service Corps officer until his retirement as a Colonel after completing his last tour of duty in Heidelberg, Germany as the comptroller for 7th Medical Command, which was responsible for the command and control of all U.S. Army hospitals, clinics, and medical units stationed in Europe.
He met his wife of 53 years, Oswalda Harich Lingle, in Heidelberg, Germany. They were married in 1968 in Syracuse, NY. He was awarded an MBA degree from Syracuse University in 1969. Highlights of his military career were assignments as the comptroller for Landstuhl Army Medical Center in Germany; a staff officer in the Office of the Comptroller of the U.S. Army in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and Comptroller for HQS 7th Medical Command in Heidelberg, Germany.
When he retired from the Army in 1987, he and his family moved to San Antonio, TX where he started a second career with the University of the Incarnate Word. As a highly respected member of the Department of Business Administration, he taught courses in economics, accounting, computer literacy, and programming skills. He wrote several of his own computer textbooks and assisted countless students in the process of earning baccalaureate and master's degrees in business administration.
Upon his second retirement in 1998, he and his wife enjoyed myriad international travel sojourns all over the world with their close friends Jim and Pat Van Straten. They traveled to countries in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Asia, and Central America. He remained a devoted servant of God and taught adult Sunday School, was a Bethel Bible Study instructor, and led multiple Bible studies. He also delivered meals with Meals on Wheels and served on the board of Christian Senior Services.
In the last year of his life, he was lovingly cared for by three dedicated women of God, Sister Amparo, Sister Eva, and Sister Klaudia, to whom his family will be forever grateful. He was predeceased by his wife, Oswalda Harich Lingle, and leaves behind his children, Stephanie Anne Lingle and Christopher Douglas Lingle, his brother, Douglas E. Lingle, and numerous friends and family. He will be greatly missed until we all meet again in eternity to worship our glorified and risen Savior and King, Jesus Christ.
