'Great man,,leader and band leader..I played with his orchestra from the 1970's until 2001 as his backup
on guitar...loved his music..his band always sounded great..i was lucky that he would call me from time to time
and every time it was always great for me to do the gig..i spoke to him last a few years ago at the VFW Post 76..told me his grand daughter was learning the saxophone like him..he sounded very proud of that..
asked me I was still playing..he said same phone number I said yes..I will miss Paul and so will a lot
of other musicians, friends and relatives'

'Paul was a personal friend and mentor. We first met when we were both school band directors and I worked briefly for him as a staffer in the 1981 session of the Texas House of Representatives. He will be missed by many.'

'"Need over Greed" your passion, the drive to wake up in the morning and take care of the little lady on the West Side who was working two jobs and raising a family or the family trying to get help for their child suffering with Mental Health problems. "Need over Greed" the county workers that were going to loose their jobs due to budget cuts you marched on to make sure they could feed their family. Thank you for the gift of being with you during your stay at the Heights for physical therapy. I would walk in and you had the therapists or the CNA sitting around you listening to every word because you had stories of important history that we would not learn in books but only in life. Residents would see you in the hallway and say "You played at my wedding"? "Need over Greed" your votes, proposals or values in your home raising your sons were all part of your drive to march on as you did for our country. 'Although Paul and I fought it out for the position of County Judge in 1984, when he was reelected as County Commissioner and rejoined the court in 1987, we served together on the court for four years until I left for Austin and state government in 1991. During those four years there was never any animosity between us and we worked closely together on several projects for the betterment of our citizens. I considered Paul Elizondo my friend. My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to Irene and the Elizondo family.'
