At 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 6, 2001, our mother, Consuelo M. Fernandez, died as she lived, with peace, love and respect. As were her wishes, she died in her own home, in her own bed, watched over by her loving children. Grandma was born April 16, 1906. She is preceded in everlasting life by her husband, Tito Fernandez; her son, Rudy Fernandez; and her grandson, Scott Muhich. Although my grandmother slowly lost her independence over these last few years, she lived with dignity and grace through the loving care of her surviving children; son, Tito Fernandez, Jr. and his wife, Angela; her daughters, Gladys Price, Olga Muhich and her husband, Edward, and by Guadalupe F. Avila who gave unquestioning love and constant concern for her well being. Her 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren have been sources of much happiness in her life. My grandmother lived a full life, which like all of us had its ups and downs. But she was our teacher. We will miss her sweet voice, her sense of humor, her common sense, but most of all, the direct touch of her freely expressed, deep and absolute unquestioning love. Farewell Mom. You shaped us, and we are a reflection of your unconditional love. We rejoice and take pride in your long and giving life of charity and unselfishness. Soon we will be with you again and together we will see our Saviors face.
