With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Cynthia Flores Villarreal, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and dedicated nurse who spent 45 years caring for others with compassion and excellence.
She was born on April 2, 1955 to Richard and Juanita Flores Sr., who preceded her in death, and was one of six children, one sister and four brothers. Cynthia graduated from Fox Tech High School as a member of the class of 1973. Cynthia's nursing career began in June 1975 at San Antonio College and culminated in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Incarnate Word College in 1979.
Cynthia was passionate about mentoring and community service. She played an active role in the San Antonio Texas Nurses Association, the National Association of Hispanic Nurses, and the Alamo Chapter Case Management Society of America. She spearheaded donation drives for winter clothing and essential supplies, supported local families in need, and helped organize nursing conferences. Her outstanding service earned her the Civilian Meritorious Service Award from the National Association of Hispanic Federal Executives in 2004 and 2005.
Above all, Cynthia cherished her family. She was married to her beloved husband, Jimmy Villarreal Sr., for 43 years. Together, they raised two sons, Jimmy Villarreal Jr. (Samantha Guia Villarreal) and Dr. Michael Edward Villarreal. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother to Sophie Rae and Jimmy III. Cynthia is survived by her siblings Richard E. Flores Jr. (Jeanette), Anthony Flores (Cruz Xitiali (Lali)), Roland Flores, Rebecca Flores, and Ruben Flores.
The family extends our sincerest thanks to Brooke Army Medical Center Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic, Brooke Army Medical Center Neurology Clinic, Brooke Army Medical Center Intensive Care Until 3T personnel, Sail Healthcare, Alamo Assistive Technology, and Crest Home Health for the compassionate care they provided Cynthia.
