Cynthia Ann Williams was born to Emily Foster Williams and George Meissner Williams, Sr. on August 24, 1936, and went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Cynthia grew up in San Antonio and later lived at the Brown School in Austin. For the last 38 years she has been lovingly cared for by the staff of Mission Road Developmental Center. She loved and enjoyed being with her friends at Meadows Cottage at Mission Road.
The family extends its appreciation to those in leadership roles at Mission Road Ministries during Cynthia’s residence there: Mr. Bob Murray, Mr. Toby Summers, Mrs. Carol White, and Ms. Lora Butler. Their leadership helped this ministry thrive and touch the lives of thousands of clients in an important and meaningful way.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Dr. Donald Foster Williams of Chicago; her San Antonio family - Aunt, Carolyn Inez Foster; Aunt and Uncle Gladys and John B. Chadwick, and cousin, Jeanette Chadwick.
Survivors are her brother and sister- in- law who were her guardians, Barbara and George M. Williams, Jr.; niece, Elizabeth Ann Brewer (Alan); nephew, Scott Foster Williams (Jeananne); niece, Linda Redstone (Michael); nephew, Chadwick Foster Williams; Great nieces Wendy Williams, Sarah Barelos (Nick), Gillian Redstone, Emily Redstone; and great nephews Kevin Williams, Scott Brewer, and Nicholas Redstone.
Despite her special needs, Cynthia loved life and enjoyed the many friendships she developed with both clients and staff at Mission Road. She loved having family visit her and bring her favorite chocolate cake and ice cream, going on outings with her group, driving to Dairy Queen for chocolate shakes with Barbara and George, celebrating holiday events with all the other clients, coming home for Christmas to be with the family, opening her many birthday gifts at her parties in Meadows, and looking forward to getting new red shoes each birthday.
The Williams family thanks every staff member at Mission Road who cared for Cynthia and made her life a happy one. Their work can be very challenging and certainly reflects the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:40, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these, my brethren, you did it to me.” Our family is most grateful to these unsung heroes and heroines.
A family graveside service will be held at Mission Burial Park South on Friday, April 26 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jim DeHoog officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Mission Road Ministries (for Cynthia’s Swimming Pool), 8706 Mission Road, San Antonio, Tx, 78214.
