Born in Fort Fairfield, Maine, April 28, 1938, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Dale Medford Grass died in San Antonio, Texas, on December 6, 2022, at age 84. From the time he was a school-aged boy growing up in Fort Fairfield, Dale always wanted to be a soldier in the U.S. Army. Soon after graduating from Fort Fairfield High School in 1958, he followed through with that dream and enlisted. During his 26 years of service, he was stationed in the United States and overseas, including Okinawa, where he met his wife, and proudly achieved the rank of First Sergeant (1SG) by the time he retired in 1984.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Medford Grass and Ruth (Ross) Grass, and sisters, Renekka Saucier and Nancy Cyr. Dale is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shigeko Grass of San Antonio; daughter, Lori Darter, son-in-law Greg, and granddaughter, Ava, all of Coppell, Texas; and sister Carla DeMerchant of Fort Fairfield.
A private family visitation will be followed by a private family funeral, where Dale will be buried with military honors on December 28, 2022, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in his honor. Go to https://www.vfw.org/ and click the red Donate button.
