Daniel Jay Davis, died from complications due to Alzheimer’s, peacefully, in San Antonio, TX, on June 27, 2023, with family at his side. He was born on March 2, 1950, and raised in the small farming town of Concord, MI; the oldest child of Roy and Joyce Davis. From an early age, Dan wanted to become an Army officer. After graduating high school, he realized his lifelong dream at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY. Dan graduated from West Point in 1973, commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Infantry. Anxious to see the world and begin his career, he sought an overseas assignment at Fort Davis, Panama. While in Panama, Dan met Linda Bray, a teacher for the Panama Canal Zone. In 1975, Dan married Linda at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in St. Louis, MO, a union of 47 years. Dan served his country through Army service for 30 years achieving the rank of Colonel. During his career, he served in a plethora of staff and command assignments across the United States and the world from the Cold War to Operation Just Cause and with the UN in Kosovo. Along this journey, Dan had the support and love of Linda and their three children. In March 2003, Dan decided to retire from the Army at Fort Bragg, NC. Transitioning to civilian life, Dan embarked on a second career as an Army Civilian, serving as the Chief of Staff, Central Region, for the Army Installation Management Command in San Antonio, TX from 2003 to 2018. Be it professionally or privately, Dan always lived by the Army values, loving his family, and taking care of his people. Throughout their life together, Dan and Linda forged enduring friendships with classmates, fellow soldiers and spouses and co-workers. Dan loved to spend time with his family, which meant playing with his grandkids (Sophie, Jack, Hayden, Hank, Harrison, Zack, and Harper, sadly Dan was unable to meet Bray, the youngest grandchild), going to watch his daughter run in a half marathon, or going to the Renaissance Festival with his sons. During his leisure time, Dan pursued his wood working hobby, making furniture, and creating pens on the lathe for family and friends. Family grounded Dan’s life from childhood until his death. He is preceded in death by his parents; stepparents, Roy Davis (Nita) and Joyce Knauer (Bill); and his brother, Gordy. Dan is survived by his wife, Linda; their children, Daniel Davis, Andrew Davis (Tamara), Kerrigan Simpson (Dean); his eight grandchildren; and his sister, Nancy.
