My dad and I spent many years working together first at Texas Dental Plans and then later at the ranch. These moments were filled with success and failure which brought us closer and as time went on we built a relationship filled with lessons he taught me as well as wonderful memories and laughter. And through all the chaos of life he always made sure he gave me guidance while giving me the freedom to succeed. 
His stern looks and talent of being a father was also graced upon my sister Cindy. In times of sorrow he knew how to comfort her and in time of rejoice knew how to make her smile. His infectious way to make others feel at home when they felt lost anchored our family. He was our rock. He taught us the values we hold true today from being a loving caring friend to always being grateful of what you have.  Growing up he was a stern man but that was the result of his deep love for us and his guidance would allow us to build a life we can be proud of. 
When the Lord began calling him home the woman that stood beside him through it all was the love of his life, my mom. My parents live by the definition of kindness, integrity and loyalty. Their true love has a way of living on through our family and the love we share. God put us on this world, making us only temporary in others lives and we have to accept the fact Dads life was only temporary here on earth, but there’s nothing temporary about the love or the lessons he shared. And as you say goodbye today to the man who is a hero to so many of us, we want to celebrate the life he did live. In those 86 years he lived on earth he built a life filled with ones he loved, a life that impacted all of us. With his wise words and strong hugs he will live on in memory as we let him return home to the Lord. 


As we sit here today remembering a brother, a husband, and a wonderful father and recall all we loved about a man whose strength and friendship touched so many lives. At a young age I learned the importance of his guidance from “the look”... as well as his desire for us to experience new things and truly enjoy life. This ability to show strength and kindness stemmed from his love of my mom, it was the love that overcame all challenges, they showed me what true love was, that love is stronger than hate or anger, a love that would hold our family together for decades. Together they accomplished many goals and traveled across the nation from Las Vegas to Washington DC, but the time most well spent was when they were together watching the sunrise at Rockport or looking up at the stars at the Ranch. They would sit together outside as the sun rose every morning over the ocean enjoying a cup of coffee and some donuts as they watch the world awake. The special traditions continue throughout his adult life from having family Christmas at the ranch to playing poker at LBJ lake. He always enjoyed the little things in life, although one of his main dreams was to own a large family ranch and in 1996 his dream came true. He called it a “Labor of Love”. One of his good friends David Cates asked him once, what is it like to own a big ranch? Dad told him, “you never really own it but you’re just a caretaker for a period of time”. Dad was always a very humble man.


To my grandpa, a man who taught me all I know about hard work, dreams and most importantly love. His life was filled with great accomplishments but wasn’t without hardships. He taught me to over come what I couldn’t change and if you put your faith in God he would never lead you astray. His faith in God and our family anchored our lives but as we say goodbye to him I am reminded the importance of family. After a life filled with love and tragedy our Grandpa found peace in God. Thank you for all the laughs, and memories. You always seem to knew how to make me feel at home. Rest easy Grandpa, we will see you soon💕 all my love.
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18
