

Rev. Daniel M. Hernandez, age 80, of San Antonio, passed away Monday, February 6, 2006.
Rev. Hernandez was drafted into the Army in 1943, sent to Camp Kilmer Involcation and by ship he arrived at Birmingham, England.
He crossed to the English Channel and arrived in France, from there to Belgium to Germany. He went through five battle Campaigns. Rev. Hernandez was discharged in 1945 at the end of the War and came back to San Antonio, Texas where his mother lived.
He re-enlisted in 1946, went back to European Theatre of Operations, and was assigned to a tank battalion; from there he was assigned to patrol the American Zone.
He was discharged in 1954, came back home and was called to Ministry. Rev. Hernandez started Baptist Ministry and graduated from the Hispanic Seminary.
He married at Alta Vista Baptist on August 25, 1963. Upon graduation he was called into the Ministry, his first pastoral at Zion Baptist Mission; also called to Pastor at Acme Road Baptist Church and Pastor Ed at Pinn Road Baptist Church.
On the third year he was sent to five churches which included; The Baptist Church in Gonzales, TX, Baptist Church in New Braunfels, TX, Baptist Church in Devine, TX., Southwest Baptist Church and Atascosa County Baptist Church. Rev. Hernandez did volunteer work at Alta Vista Baptist Church- Missions with youth groups, University Park Baptist Church- Distribution of food and clothing, Jefferson Baptist Mission and Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana. Rev. Hernandez also established Missionary work in Mexico with various Hispanic churches.
He retired in 1982 at Pinn Road Baptist Church. Survivors: wife, Benita Hernandez; sons, Hector Hernandez and wife, Anita, Corpus Christi, TX and Luis Hernandez and wife, Debra, San Antonio, TX; 2 granddaughters; brother, David and Hope Martinez; sisters, Lucy Alvarado and Alicia Peña; several nieces and nephews.
