

Daniel was born in Ronco, PA, October 4, 1915, son of the late Charles and Sophia Mucha of Masontown, PA.
He was inducted into military service in 1941 and commissioned in 1942. His many varied experiences involved both Infantry and Intelligence areas, where he served as Cannon Company Commander 393rd Infantry Regiment, 99th Division.
He fought in the Battle of Ardennes, Battle of the Bulge, Central Europe, and Rhineland.
In the Counter Intelligence Corps, he served as instructor of Russian Language in Ft. Holabird, MD, and as a Russian Linguist with the Central Intelligence Agency in Frankfurt, Germany. He served as instructor Constabulary School, Sonthofen, Germany and the Infantry School, Ft. Benning, GA. He was also assigned NATO Command, Izmir, Turkey. Prior to retirement, he was assigned to Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY as Professor of Military Science and Tactics.
His most cherished decorations include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Belgium Fourragere.
He received a BS degree in 1956 from the University of Georgia and a Masters degree from Trinity University in 1967. Upon retirement from the military in 1961, he taught at Lackland ISD and later at SAISD. He was an instructor of Russian and World History at Highlands High School through 1980.
He was employed by the Baptist Hospital as a Business Manager for 26 years until his retirement April 13, 1997.
Daniel was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, the former Helena M. Kasinec and sister, Mary Stretton of Masontown, PA.
He is survived by his son, David and wife, Jan Elizabeth; grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth and David Garrett, Dallas, TX; sisters, Anna Patrick, Mahwah, NJ, Helen Wallace, Masontown, PA, Margaret Glagola, Butler, PA, Julia Minchick, Massapequa, NY, Sophia Krill, Bell Vernon, PA; sister-in-law, Polly Riegal, Baltimore, MD; and brother-in-law, Thomas Kasinec, Erie, PA.
