David Gallardo entered his eternal rest on the morning of December 27, 2024 at the age of 78. He was born on August 30, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, to Ben C. Gallardo and Celia S. Gallardo. He was premature at birth and according to his parents “could fit inside a shoe box”. He was the eldest son of the family.
David was a 1964 graduate of Luther Burbank High School. During high school he studied the electrical trade. His first job after high school was as an electrician at Trinity University in San Antonio. Among his duties was changing the light bulbs atop the 166 foot tall Murchinson Tower on the university campus. Shortly thereafter he was drafted into the U.S. Army. During his military service he was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, at Fort Sill Oklahoma and in West Germany. After his military service David returned to San Antonio where he married the love of his life Linda Toscano. They were wed on June 1, 1969 at San Fernando Cathedral in downtown San Antonio.
David eventually returned to serving his country in 1978 when he became a United States Border Patrol Agent. He began a distinguished career with the U.S. Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas, where he spent nearly 25 years safeguarding our nation’s borders. While in El Paso he and Linda became the proud parents of their son David Ryan Gallardo. David was proud to serve as a Border Patrol Agent and his family was always extremely proud of him. After his retirement he and his family returned to San Antonio to be closer to family.
In retirement David enjoyed being in the company of the cousins he grew up with, other family and friends. He enjoyed watching sports on television. His favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed discussing sports with his friends, cousin and brother. He enjoyed watching television shows about law enforcement and western movies. David will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his calm demeanor, for being slow to anger, for his compassion to others and his slightly mischievous sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ben C. and Celia S. Gallardo, his sister Rose Mary Gallardo and his brother Douglas Gallardo. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws Fred and Esther Toscano and brother-in-law Alfred Toscano.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years Linda Gallardo and the pride of his life, their son, David Ryan Gallardo. He is also survived by his brother Dennis Gallardo and wife Mary; brother Rudy Gallardo and wife Raquel: sister-in-law Theresa Suarez and husband Joe: sister-in-law Tammy Toscano: and numerous nephews and nieces.
Rest in peace, David, beloved husband, father, son and brother. You will be missed, but you live on in the hearts of those who love you.
