Dave, as he was commonly referred to, was born in Beaumont, TX, although raised in the small town of Silsbee, where he had the nickname Buddy.
Dave graduated from Silsbee High School and immediately joined the Corp Cadets at Texas A&M University, then eventually made the choice to transfer to Lamar University to what turned out to be the best decision of his life. This is where Dave met Ellen, the love of his life. They dated and soon married in 1966 and had three amazing children.
Daves work life began at the local paper mill, and he moved quickly into sales. Dave worked in sales in the paper and box business for over 30 years. This took his family to Southern California in the 70s then north Texas in the 80s where they raised the family in Little Elm, Tx. In the early 1990s, Dave had the opportunity to own his own business in San Antonio, Tx and his family followed him. All the family (even some cousins) at some point had their hand in working in that family business. After retirement, Dave and Ellen moved to the small town of Camp Wood, Tx in Nueces Canyon. Retirement must have been too boring, so mom started teaching at the local Elementary and Dave started teaching a class in the computer lab and driving a bus route. Camp Wood embraced them like family; they performed in the local dinner theater, Dave did photography for all the locals, they took tickets at football games and so much more. In 2016, they made their retirement final and moved back to San Antonio where they have lived for the last 5 years.
David, beloved father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend was truly one of a kind. He was always telling jokes and loved to see others smile.
Daves hobbies include photography, fishing, computers, collecting knives, coin collecting, playing free cell, and hanging out with his dogs Lucky and Sammy. If you ever met Dave (Buddy) our guess is your first interaction was him telling you a joke.
He is preceded in death by his parents Dusty and Dorothy; daughters, Suzanne Delaney, and Jennifer Margaret; and brother, Jerry Jones. David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ellen Jones; son, David Jones Jr. (wife Traci); sister-in-Law Arvilla, grandchildren, Meagan (husband Niles), Joshua, Jeffrey (wife Unique), Ashley, Abby, Taylor, Emma, Cordelia, Perry, Alyssa, Luke, and Halle; great grandchildren, Leah, Aaron, Evan, Allison, Abigail, Jaiden, Ethan, Jeremiah, and Christopher; as well as numerous extended family members and a lifetime of friends.
