David Lerma, passed away peacefully in San Antonio, TX, on April 25, 2024. Born on May 28, 1952, in Celina, OH, David's journey through life was marked by his infectious humor, boundless optimism, and the courage with which he approached every challenge.
David's early life was characterized by hard work and determination. As a child, he contributed to his family's livelihood by working in the migrant fields of America. His early years in the fields with his family laid the foundation for his strong work ethic and deep appreciation for the simple joys of life, such as his beloved Tejano music, the rich flavors of Mexican cuisine, and the laughter shared at family gatherings. He carried these values through his studies in Business Management at the University of Houston. David's professional life took him from the oil fields of Texas to the global stage, traveling to many exotic countries as a businessman in oil and gas sales. He eventually founded his own company, specializing in the sale of oil rig parts, where his leadership and vision were instrumental in its growth and success.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Maria Elena Lerma, and his siblings, Oscar Lerma, Gilbert Lerma, and Cynthia Garza. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, carried on by his loving spouse, Maria Guadalupe Cordova, his son Christopher Lerma (Nicole), his daughters Catherine Say (Carlos) and Andrea Smith (Morgen), and his five adored grandchildren, Aiden Lerma, Natalia Say, Isabella Say, Sebastian Say, and Ferris Smith. Each of them will hold onto memories of David as a guiding light in their lives.
David's life was a testament to the fact that one's beginnings do not dictate their end. From the fields to the boardroom, he showed that with humor, optimism, and courage, any obstacle could be overcome and any goal could be achieved. His optimism was contagious, and his courage in facing life’s challenges was an inspiration to all. His lesson to us was there is a will and a fight in us we sometimes don’t realize we have but when needed it’s there. And through faith, family, support and determination you can overcome so much in this world. Let us honor David’s memory by embodying his unwavering spirit and living each day to the fullest, just as he did.
Those who knew David will remember him for his love of Tejano music, his passion for Mexican cuisine—enchiladas and pan de dulce being among his favorites—and his enjoyment of golf. His presence at family gatherings was always a highlight, as his sense of humor and storytelling brought joy and laughter to those around him.
As we bid farewell to David Lerma, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. David's story is one of triumph, love, and the enduring power of the human spirit. Rest in peace, David. Your legacy will continue to inspire us all.
