David Dee Moody entered into the loving arms of our Lord on February 1, 2021, at the age of 93. He was born in Waxahachie, Texas, on July 26, 1927, to David Dee Moody and Letty (Dutton) Moody. David spent his youth in the Dallas area. He told many stories of his childhood, including jobs he would do when The State Fair of Texas came to town just for a free ticket to get in.
In his late teens, he worked for his stepfather (who raised him after his father passed away) in his lumber business. He would haul lumber to and from the lumberyard across North Texas and several other states. When he was 17, he met the love of his life, Fay. She was walking to the skating rink, and he offered her a ride. He asked her for a date. After that date, David told his friend that was the girl he wanted to marry. Only two days after turning 18 (and having known Fay for only 28 days), they were married! They remained a loving couple for 72 years before her death. Also at age 17, he joined the Merchant Marines and was actually home on leave when he met Fay. He was honorably discharged in October 1945. In 1959, David & Fay adopted two children, daughter, Pam, and son David.
David had many businesses over the years. He bought and sold cars and trucks in his younger days but eventually became a land developer of many properties, including truck stops, convenience stores, motels, and warehouses. He was such a smart businessman. There was not a day go by that anyone who had contact with him wouldn’t walk away with a piece of his great knowledge and experience. David was also a generous man that helped everyone in his life, one way or another.
He will be reunited in heaven with his wife, Fay E. Moody; son, David Moody III; daughter, Pamela Gibbs; parents, David Moody and Letty (Moody) Hardison.
David will always be remembered by his loving family; brother, Raul Hardison (Marilyn); daughter-in-law, Katherine Moody (Jay Munoz); grandchildren, Randee Moody (Tate), Richard Moody (Rachel), Jon Moody (Mary), Gayle Morgan, Candace Gibbs, Travis Moody; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Due to covid restrictions, there will be a visitation only on Friday, February 26, 2021, from 5-8 pm at Porter Loring North. There will be a memorial service for David at a date to be determined.
