September 30, 1949 – July 31, 2025
David Quinn, 75, of Spring Branch, Texas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on July 31, 2025, just two months shy of his 76th birthday. Born on September 30, 1949, in Houston, Texas, David spent a lifetime embodying the unwavering faith, profound wisdom, and boundless generosity that became the hallmark of his character.
From an early age, David demonstrated a curiosity that no textbook could contain. His wisdom was born of real-world experience—every triumph, every challenge, every quiet moment of reflection shaped the man who spoke with such insight that friends often joked he’d “read life’s instruction manual.”
A proud Baylor University Bear, David’s mind was as sharp as his faith was deep. He believed fiercely in God’s perfect plan and carried that conviction into every sunrise. To him, even the hardest storms were but a part of a much bigger picture. David believed wholeheartedly in God’s perfect, if sometimes mysterious, design. He carried this conviction with gentle confidence, reminding all who knew him that even sorrow and hardship are threads in a greater divine tapestry.
David founded Sombrilla Awning & Sign Manufacturing company with nothing more than a small shop and a dream. For over thirty-five years, he grew that modest venture into a thriving enterprise renowned across Texas for impeccable craftsmanship and unwavering integrity. Each project bore his promise of quality—just as each relationship bore the mark of his honesty and care.
When he wasn’t overseeing production, David was most at home on the water. Whether casting at dawn over a rippling river or the salt-spray edge of the Gulf Coast, his love of freshwater and saltwater fishing was more than pastime—it was a chance to marvel at creation–a sacred ritual: a moment to breathe in creation’s beauty, to laugh as the line tugged, and to share simple, unforgettable lessons in patience. With rod in hand and heart attuned to nature’s rhythms, he found peace and shared that serenity generously, inviting friends and strangers alike to learn the art of wonder with every cast line.
For nearly fifty years, David’s greatest partnership was with his beloved wife, Lisa. Their marriage—celebrated quietly but fiercely—was a testament to loyalty, laughter, and shared faith. Together, they raised three children, each buoyed by a father who championed their dreams, guided their steps, and believed in them without hesitation. In turn, David reveled in his role as “Pops,” delighting in the antics of his three grandchildren and weaving stories that transported them to lands far beyond their backyard.
David had an uncanny gift for making people feel seen. Strangers became friends within minutes; problems dissolved under his analytical gaze; challenges were reframed as opportunities with the right blend of creativity and grit. He could sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves—and leave her grinning at the memory. His booming laugh was the soundtrack of family gatherings, business milestones, and impromptu fishing trips, contagious enough to lift even the heaviest spirit.
Those who knew David Quinn remember a man of rare intellect and even rarer heart. His life lessons were never hollow phrases but lived truths: never surrender to despair, extend kindness unconditionally, and trust that faith will guide you through the darkest night. He spoke them softly and lived them boldly, leaving a legacy of compassion, courage, and joy that continues to illuminate every life he touched.
David Quinn’s journey on earth may have ended, but his stories, his laughter, and his light endure. He taught us to cast our hopes like lines into the water, to dance through life’s storms, and to trust in the beauty of every sunrise. He leaves us richer for having known him and ever grateful for the love he gave so freely. May we honor his memory by living with the same faith, wisdom, and grace that defined his extraordinary life
