Delbert Michael Villaneuva, known affectionately by all as Mike, left this world for his heavenly home on September 16, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on August 9, 1949, in Roswell, New Mexico, Mike's journey through life was marked by deep love, enduring friendships, and a commitment to his faith and family that left an indelible impression on all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. He passed away peacefully in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family.
Mike is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 55 years, Sharon Villaneuva, and their children: daughter Karen Guadarrama and her husband David, and son Joseph Villaneuva and his wife Mary. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Austin, Reagan, and Lilly, who brought tremendous joy to his life. Mike's sister, Kathe Holley and her husband Mike, also survive him, as do his cherished nieces Destiny Cannon (Frank), Jordan, Payton, Sarah and nephews Drake (Valerie), Joel (Martha). His memory will be treasured by numerous extended family members and a lifetime of friends who became like family to him.
For 22 years, Mike dedicated himself to his work as a pipefitter, where his skill and camaraderie earned him the respect and friendship of his colleagues. He formed unbreakable bonds with many, including Lee and Robbi Rihn, Brett Yates, and Ken Dixon. Mike was a lifetime member of Local 142 Pipefitters Union. Following his years in the pipefitting industry, Mike embraced the challenges of the digital age, serving as an IT manager for 19 years until his well-earned retirement.
Mike's passion for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. He found solace and joy working on his farm, where he honed the art of grafting pecan trees, sharing his knowledge and tips for successful gardening with anyone interested. He loved fishing, dove hunting, and canning his homemade salsa. An avid reader, Mike could often be found immersed in a good book when he wasn't enjoying the outdoors.
Above all, Mike treasured time spent with his grandchildren and relished every family gathering. His deep faith was a cornerstone of his life, and as a member of the First Baptist Church of Natalia, he found great joy in worship and fellowship with his church family.
As we bid farewell to Mike, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the time we shared with him and the countless ways he enriched our lives. His spirit will continue to guide us, his stories will keep us company, and his love will forever be a beacon of light in our lives. Mike's journey on earth may have concluded, but the love he gave, and the wisdom he imparted will resonate for generations to come.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for November 9.
