Dee was born in Temple, TX to Clyde and Mae Merritt on December 28th, 1939. She was a graduate of Tivy High School in Kerrville. In 1965, she married Robert Alton, and they were married for well over fifty years. They literally cruised through their retirement years, always by each other’s side.
Dee’s legacy is one of loving commitment to her family, especially her husband and children. She extended her kindness to all in need, and was never beyond telling a joke or laughing at one somebody told, even (especially) if it wasn’t funny. But that was who she was. She made others feel comfortable, worthy, and loved. Dee loved animals, especially dogs. She always had a Shi-tzu in her lap! She loved her flowers, Texas bluebonnets, and George Strait.
Dee taught Pre-K and Kindergarten at Kids of the Kingdom Christian Preschool for many years. She left a lasting impression on the lives of her beloved students, who lovingly referred to her as “Miss Dee.” She was always teaching or helping someone even long after retiring from the classroom.
Dee is preceded in death by her husband Robert (The Bob) Alton, her parents, Clyde and Mae Merritt, her sister Loise Rockowitz, and her brother, Wayne Merritt.
She is survived by her children, Traci Leigh Alton and Brett Travis Alton, and her grandchildren Kaitlyn Elizabeth Alton, and Taylor Grace Alton, along with many granddogs, and grandhorse, and a granddonkey. She loved everybody.
