

Diane was born in Topeka, KS, on Dec. 11, 1928. She graduated from Topeka High School, and was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority at Washburn University in Topeka, where she majored in Art. In 1947, Diane met the Love of her life, Alvin J. Schumacher, at a blind date arranged by Diane’s best friend. They dated for 2 years before marrying on August 16, 1949. Al and Diane were married for nearly 70 years before Al’s death on April 3, 2019.
In 1954, they moved from Topeka to Milwaukee, WI, and in 1967 moved to Kenosha, WI, for Al’s career. Diane enjoyed oil and water color painting, participating in various art shows. Quite often she gave a painting as a wedding or Christmas gift. In Kenosha, Diane became involved as President of the Friends of the Museum, as well as becoming active at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Diane and Al loved to travel, taking a number of cruises and visiting 38 countries. They enjoyed traveling with friends, and became friends with people they met on their travels. Diane and Al moved to San Antonio, TX, in 2008 to enjoy the warm weather and 4 of their children that lived there or in surrounding areas.
Diane’s life centered around her love for God, her husband Al, and her family. She taught religious education for many years. In her own words, Diane was “proudest of my motherhood, my long-married life, and my conversion to the Catholic faith at the time I met my husband”.
Diane is survived by her sons Michael of Kenosha, WI, Gary (Vickie) of San Diego, CA, Mark (Mary Ellen) of Canyon Lake, TX, Jim (Mary) of Gibsonia, PA, her daughters Sue (Mark) Stegbauer of Hartford, WI, Mary Kay (Jonny) Sherman of Fort Collins, CO, & Teresa (Javi) Villanueva of San Antonio, TX, 20 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Diane was proceeded in death by a daughter, Anne Swaim, her parents Forest & Cora (Miller) Boone, and her sisters Donna (John) Talbott and Carol Deane Boone.
A private family service will be held on Jan 26, 2021 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home in San Antonio, TX. A Rosary at 9:30am and a funeral Mass at 10:00am will be Livestreamed via the funeral home’s website https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/san-antonio-tx/diane-schumacher-10003190.
