

Dixie Queen Copeland, born March 5, 1939, in San Angelo, Texas, to Bonnie (Lyles) and William H. Queen, died peacefully on September 10, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas and entered into the arms of God. Dixie lived for 50 years in College Station, TX and the last three years in San Antonio. The family appreciates the support and care from Arden Courts and Concho Hearts Hospice, both in San Antonio.
Dixie grew up in Nacogdoches, TX, graduating high school and earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Stephen F. Austin University. While teaching first grade in Dallas, she met Earl Leonard “Lynn” Copeland on a blind date while he was home on leave from the Navy. They married on June 29, 1962.
For 50 years Dixie was a devoted and active member of First Methodist Church in Bryan. Her Christian faith was strong from her childhood until her last breath. She knew hymns by memory and loved to sing them. Her next greatest love was her husband, three boys, and family. She had a servant’s heart, and was active in church, school, and community organizations throughout her life including the Koinonia Class, athletic and band parents, Extension Service club, Aggie Moms, and many others. She was someone who volunteered, who stepped up in leadership or worked tirelessly behind the scenes. She was gifted with a hearty laugh and bright shining eyes, making others feel special and welcomed. She was artistic and created beautiful decorations and calligraphy. After her children grew up, she resumed teaching – English as a second language for international college students at Texas A&M.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Mary Jane Martin. She is survived by her husband, Lynn; sons, Kent (Debra), Kyle, and Clayton Copeland; grandchildren, Stephen, Grace, and Janael; and other family and friends. She will be deeply missed by those who were touched by her warmth, kindness, and joyful spirit.
A memorial service to honor Dixie’s life will be held at First Methodist Church, 506 E. 28th Street, Bryan, TX 77803 on Saturday October 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Methodist Church in Bryan, TX or the Alzheimer’s Association.
