Darryl James “DJ” Bubar Jr., a cherished husband, father, son, brother and friend, passed away on December 12, 2025, at the age of 63 in San Antonio, Texas. Born on August 22, 1962, in Dexter, Maine, DJ was the son of Darryl Bubar Sr. and Sylvia Bubar. He grew up in Ripley, Maine and graduated from Dexter High School in 1980.
In addition to his parents, DJ is survived and missed by his wife, Brenda Bubar, his son David Bubar, and his daughter and son-in-law, Caitlin and Alec Bouey. He is also survived by his sisters, Cathy Thompson and Kelly Mann; his mother-in-law, Sandy White; his brothers-in-law, Neil Thompson, Brad Mann, Robert White, and Brian White; his sister-in-law, Christal White; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. DJ was predeceased by his father-in-law, Leonard White.
DJ was known for his open and friendly personality and was always the life of the party. He “never met a stranger,” or at least, any stranger he met soon became a friend. He was a pillar of strength and support for his family and friends, and his warmth and generosity touched the lives of all who knew him.
A man of many passions, DJ was renowned for his culinary and hosting skills, especially his memorable weekly brunches. DJ’s love for cooking was only matched by his love for the people he shared his meals with.
DJ’s life was a testament to his strong work ethic, integrity and dedication. He spent much of his career at San Antonio Shoemakers, where he devoted 42 years of service. Starting in the stitching room, DJ’s exceptional skills and leadership qualities saw him rise through the ranks to oversee manufacturing and operations.
DJ will be remembered as a friendly, loving, and generous man whose presence brought comfort and joy to those around him. He lived a life full of purpose and left behind a trail of cherished memories that will be held dear by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we bid farewell to DJ, we celebrate a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as his spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and the many lives he touched.
The family will receive guests from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at Porter Loring Mortuary West, with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
A separate burial service will follow in Skowhegan, Maine at a time and date to be determined.
