Domingo Jose Ocampo, 88, truly loved by his family and friends, passed from this life to his eternal life, on May 12, 2014. Domingo, a resident of Helotes, Texas, was preceded in death by his wife Tillie Ocampo. He loved the outdoors, bow hunting, playing sports, boxing, hunting and fishing. He never skipped an opportunity to lead a football game, fly kites or enjoy the outdoors with his daughters, nieces and nephews. Fascinated with the Charro culture, he rode horses, played the guitar and sang canciones. In his youth, his job as a delivery boy at the Farmers Market, led to his acquaintance and friendships with many of the business people in San Antonio in the 1940’s. Because he enjoyed friendships with the various cultural groups in San Antonio, he was often invited into friends’ homes to sample Asian, Italian, German and African American food leading to his reputation that Mingo never met a meal he didn’t like. He joined in the WWII war effort by helping retool the Juvenile Manufacturing Co., which manufactured children’s clothing, for the production of soldier’s uniforms, tents and mosquito netting. He retired from Levi Strauss/Juvenile Mfg. Co. with more than 40 years of service to travel and dedicate himself to making his yard the prettiest on the block. Domingo was born to Jose and Francisca Ocampo in a coal mining town in Berwind, Colorado. His siblings included Vita and Julio Castillo, Ezekiel, Cipriano, Santos, Socorro, Rosa, Jose Macario and Luis Ocampo. His youngest sister, Rosa Escobar, survives him. He is also survived by his daughters, Patricia Alaniz (Moses) and Doreen Zepeda (Fred), his grandchildren Matthew Alaniz (Cathy), Jennifer Zepeda (Richard), Jeremy Alaniz (Eva), great grandson Jude Michael Alaniz and numerous nieces and nephews.
