He died Sunday, October 22, 2017, after a long battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances Rebekah Parker Fowler.

He graduated from Jonesboro-Hodge High School in 1958, and immediately enlisted in the US Army.
He early on decided on a military career, and served on active duty until 31 July 1978.
His tours of duty took him many times to Fort Gordon, GA; to Germany several times, and to Vietnam twice.
After retirement he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary education.
He taught for 7 years at Sikes High School in Sikes, Louisiana.
He retired from teaching in 2002 from Kirby Junior High School in San Antonio, Texas.
Don loved his wife first and foremost, followed closely by his children, grandchildren, and especially his great grandchildren.
As much as he enjoyed watching the news, he would change the channel in an instant if a toddler wanted cartoons.
Don is survived by his wife, Frances; a daughter, Deborah Kay Fowler, a son, Michael Shawn Fowler, and a daughter-in-law, Linda Thomas Fowler; two granddaughters, Meghan Leigh Fowler Lloyd and Rebecca Frances Froh; three great grandchildren, Danen William Lloyd, Kaylinn Marion Delgado, and Stellan Clarke Burkett; and a brother-in-law, Andrew Weed Bickett.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Ann Fowler Bickett.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Don’s name to the Kindred Hospice Foundation, 3350 Riverwood Parkway, Suite 1400, Atlanta GA 30339.
A celebration of life will be held mid-November in Jonesboro, Louisiana, followed by a private graveside service.
