Donald W. Muir Sr.

Donald Wildridge Muir Sr., age 87, went to be with his Lord on May 9, 2014. Donald was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on December 23, 1926 to Ella May and John William Muir. He was raised for a few years in New York City, returning to Birmingham in 1930. Donald graduated from Phillips High School in 1945, and immediately enlisted in the Air Corps, serving in France and Germany. After returning from overseas, he attended and graduated from the University of Alabama. In 1951, he married Annie Geddie Bullard, and together, they raised four children. They were married until 1976, when Annie passed away. Donald married Lee Nell Merritt in 1978, and they were able to travel extensively during their retirement years.

Donald was preceded in death by both wives and daughter, JoAnn. Donald is survived by his sister Audrey McWhirter, sons Donald, Jr.(Cindy), John (Debbie) and Robert (Laurie), grandchildren Nola Friedell (Peter), Alissa Sihatrai (Allen), Kelly Eby (Robert), David, and Dustin, and great-grandchildren Richard and Coleman Friedell.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 3 p.m., Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
