Mrs. Dorothy Rose O'Brien Bailey entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the age of 93. Dorothy was born on December 8, 1932, in Chicopee, Massachusetts. She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, SSgt. (Ret.) James H. Bailey; parents, Andrew A. and Rose Hickson O'Brien; and brother, Arthur A. O'Brien.
As a child, Dorothy loved to ice skate with her friends. She worked in the business world before high school graduation. She was proficient in shorthand, typing, and all office skills. After she married Jim in 1955, she took care of her family and home. Through the Air Force, the family lived in Massachusetts, Delaware, Hawaii, Georgia and Texas. She went back to work outside of the home when the girls were in high school. Dorothy was the bookkeeper for Bailey's Dive Shop. She worked in the AAFES Human Resources Service at Lackland A.F.B. until she retired at 65. She traveled to Ireland with her cousin and eldest daughter. A trip that she spoke about for years.
Dorothy sewed the girl's beautiful clothes when they were young. She was a Girl Scout leader and CCD teacher. She enjoyed bowling on a league and making ceramics at the A.F.B. She was a great cook. Her Thanksgiving meals were the best! Like her husband and daughters Dorothy loved their dogs, cats, peacock and rabbit.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Susan Kues (Glenn) and Linda Zaiontz (Allen); grandchildren, Darcy Kues (Camille), Christian Kues (Maura), Michael Zaiontz and Sean Zaiontz; "Adopted family", Johnny and Anna Lopez, Johnny Jr., Joey, Jacob, Bella, Nathan and Sirena.
The family thanks Discovery Village Stone Oak and HOPE Hospice for the wonderful care and support they provided Dorothy and her family.
A Rosary will be held at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 11:30 AM. Funeral Mass will follow. Dorothy will be interred with her husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
