

Dorothy Stabler Oliver, age 79, of Hollywood Park, TX, died unexpectedly and peacefully at University Hospital, surrounded by her loving family around whom she built her life, on Tuesday, April 22, 2003.
She was born in Monroe County, AL March 15, 1924. She was Salutatorian of her class at J.U. Blackshear H.S., Uriah, AL.
Following graduation, she entered nurse's training for WWII, then was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and U.S. Air Force before "retiring" in 1954 to begin a lifetime of devotion to her husband of 54 years, three children and ten grandchildren.
Her greatest enjoyment was assembling her family for all special occasions, such as birthdays, holidays, as well as just "get together" days.
She also enjoyed travelling throughout the 49 continental states and 13 European countries with her husband and children in their younger years.
She specialized in preparing delicious meals with abundant choices and always remembering the birthdays and anniversaries of family members and friends in the San Antonio area and those scattered, but still close, friends.
She married her devoted husband in 1949 and they reared their young family in Mobile, AL until his transfer to Kelly AFB in mid-1967. In the opinion of her many friends and family members, her loyalty and devotion to serving them will always be remembered and was beyond reproach.
She was a loyal member of Parkhills Baptist Church throughout her tenure in San Antonio.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
She is survived by her husband, J.R. "Reggie" Oliver; daughter, Karen Raleigh and her children, Shayna, Shane, Christian and Cameron; son, Jim Oliver, wife, Tavia, and their children, Mikhail, Landry and Aubrey; son, Randy Oliver, wife, Becky, and their children, Brittany, Christopher, and Jonathan, all of San Antonio, TX; her sisters, Josephine Ward, and Jessie Vick, her husband, Delano of Semmes, AL; aunt, Ira Aldridge of Mobile, AL; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Alabama and Texas; in-laws, Ann Stabler of Virginia Beach, VA; J.D. and Marty Oliver and Merle Kilpatrick of Mobile, AL; Althia and Sanford Stokes of Port Neches, TX.
