

Douglas Harold Raney, entered into rest on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 78 years old, surrounded by his loving family. Doug was born in Billings, Montana. His parents, Richard and Lillian Raney soon moved to the family homestead in Lemmon, South Dakota.
From an early age, Doug learned and loved the game of golf. He was an amazing player which led to a golf scholarship to Sul Ross State.
After graduation, Doug moved to San Antonio, where his parents had relocated and opened A to Z Rentals. Doug became a teacher and coach at Burbank High School which is where he met a young Harriett Van Gundy. Harriett was the Love of His Life. They were married on June 7, 1969, and spent the next 54 years together in San Antonio.
In 1973, Doug joined his family business, and grew Aztech Rental Center into a well-respected business in the Central and South Texas heavy equipment rental industry. Doug was featured in articles in the Express News for his successful business practices and was not afraid to fight with the big corporations in the industry.
Doug was a longtime member of Sonterra Country Club, where as a scratch golfer he played 4 to 5 times a week. Later in life, he loved spending time at many San Antonio golf courses, and since he was a “Coach at Heart”, Doug was often seen mentoring young players from High Schoolers to Junior golfers at Silverhorn Golf Club, or The San Pedro Driving Range.
Doug was also an active member at First Presbyterian Church and The Argyle.
The family would like to thank Dr. James Martin his family doctor for 40 years a close friend and a man of God. Also Dr. Lauren E. Tarbox his Nephrologist, Dr. Joseph R. Holahan his Hematologist, Dr. Ronald L. Drengler his Oncologist and Four Seasons Hospice.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Harriett Raney; his daughter, Jennifer Curren and husband David; his son, Lee Raney and wife Kelly. He is also survived by his 6 beautiful grandchildren, Elizabeth, William, Cooper, Chris, Kate, and Charlie. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clif Barnhart, Bob Birrenkot, Bill Burnett, Arthur Cerna, Buddy Cook, Dean Greer, Dr. David Jones, Jimmy Kasch, and Reid Meyers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The START Center for Cancer Care.
