

Dr. Pablo Guajardo, Jr. went to the Lord on October 15, 2024 at his home in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 85. Dr. Guajardo’s journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, his patients and his community.
He was born on May 21, 1939 in Laredo, TX to parents, Pablo (Bilo) Guajardo, Sr., and Paulina (Bila) Guajardo. He was one of seven children and had many stories to share of the dairy farm his family owned, La Favorita. Pablo was affectionately known as “Nuno” growing up.
Dr. Guajardo’s life was one of service and achievement. He joined the United States Army Reserves as a young man. He graduated with his Bachelor's Degree from Texas A&I University-Kingsville (now Texas A&M). He pursued his Medical degree at La Universidad de Monterrey, graduating in 1974. After Medical school, he completed his Orthopedic Residencies at the Texas Tech School of Medicine in El Paso, Texas in 1983. He then moved to San Antonio, TX to begin his private practice known as Southside Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Clinic on the southside of San Antonio.
He continued to bring that sense of family and care to his cherished patients and their families until his retirement in 2015. Following that, he then served at SA Health Care Clinic in Downtown San Antonio. His years of medical service to the San Antonio community does not stop there. He served as Chief of Surgery at Southwest General Hospital, where he was known for his expert surgical skills as well as warm, patient-centered bedside manner. He served as Orthopedic Surgeon for several area hospitals to include Baptist Memorial Hospital System, Christus Santa Rosa Healthcare System and Methodist Metropolitan Hospital System.
He was married to Rosie Escobar, the mother of his children, whom he met while working as a resident in El Paso, TX. Though they later parted ways, he remained a devoted father. For the past 17 years, he shared his life with his loving wife, Lillian (Lilly) Guajardo.
Dr. Guajardo, also affectionately known as ‘Doc’ by his family and friends, was an old Cowboy at heart. He loved hunting and watching his favorite westerns on tv. He was also a big sports fan, never wanting to miss the Spurs play or a Cowboys football game. Doc also had a great sense of humor and was very funny. He gave everyone a nickname. One of his most recent hobbies was riding his scooter through his neighborhood, enjoying the fresh air and saying hi to his neighbors. The joy of his life was spending time with his beloved wife, Lilly, his daughters, his cherished grandchildren and his extended blended family whom he loved unconditionally.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lilly Guajardo. His daughters Christine Gusman (Guajardo) and husband, Sergio, Paulina Guajardo, Rosa Watson (Guajardo), and husband, Jon, and Alejandrina (Alexis) Guajardo. His grandchildren Vicente Gusman, Presley Guajardo, and Isabel Watson. His brother, Rodolfo Guajardo and his wife, Elsa and sisters Candelaria (Candy) Zambrano and Paulina (Baby) Gonzalez, sister-in-law Gracie Guajardo as well as numerous, greatly loved nieces and nephews. Also, an extended blended family to include stepchildren and step grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as “Papa Doc.” Doc was a family man through and through, who offered unconditional love to everyone who knew and loved him. He was very proud of his daughters and exceptionally proud of the two new and upcoming physicians to the family, who are Dr. Ismael Guajardo III and Angelica Zambrano.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Esmeralda (Emmie) Guajardo, whom he missed dearly, his parents, his sister Sara Gonzalez (Guajardo), and his brothers Raul Guajardo, and Dr. Ismael Guajardo.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the physicians who took outstanding care of Dr. Guajardo to include personal friend and Cardiologist, Dr. William Wu, the wonderful staff of Specialists for Health-Supportive Care, Remarkable Hospice and WellMed Support.
Dr. Guajardo’s family will receive friends and family on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
