

Eddie was born in Manhattan, New York on September 29, 1956. He proudly served 20 years in the U.S. Army, Army National Guard, and Army Reserves achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant and serving during Operation Desert Storm. Throughout his dedicated military career, Eddie was awarded many honors and accomplishments in recognition of his service and leadership.
He met the love of his life, Luzmila Palma, in Monterey, California, where the two were married on August 18, 1984. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and family. After his military service, Eddie continued serving his community with 25 years of dedication at the San Antonio State Hospital in the forensic unit.
He was known for his infectious laughter, big heart, and love for family gatherings—whether BBQing in the backyard or simply spending time surrounded by loved ones. Eddie brought joy, humor, and warmth to every room he entered.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Luzmila Palma Castillo; daughters Ebony Castillo and Elizabeth Castillo; son Eddie Jose Castillo; son-in-law Troy Proctor; and stepdaughters Marcela Rivera and Luz Aimet Solano. He was a proud grandfather to Barbara Sanders, Exaiah Williams, Dion Carlos Torres, Ronin Fontelroy, and Rylin Fontelroy, and great-grandfather to Dion Torres.
He is also survived by his best friend of 49 years, Pete Rivera, who stood by his side through life’s laughter, challenges, and memories that will live on forever; his sister Emiree Castillo, and brother Edrick Castillo.
Eddie is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Evelyn and Emily; brother Erick; and his best buddy, Bobbie Lee Sanders, who no doubt welcomed him into Heaven with open arms and laughter once more.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park on Austin Highway. Funeral services will take place on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., also at Sunset Memorial Park, followed by a 2:00 p.m. burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Repass will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Legendary Center, 126 Lanark Dr, San Antonio, Texas.
