Eddie Samuel Phillips

He was born on May 10, 1936 in Corpus Christi, TX to Alma Reams Phillips and Ray Phillips. A lifelong Texan, Eddie enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors, watching old westerns, computers, practical jokes, pool volleyball, teasing his grandchildren, genealogy, watching his great-grandchildren play, pot-luck meals, and watching the deer off the back porch of his Hill Country cabin.

Ever the faithful servant, Eddie served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and willing committee-volunteer for many years at Calallen Baptist Church in Corpus Christi . Eddie was a practical man and a wonderful example of what a Christian husband and father should be.

Eddie graduated from Calallen High School in 1954. A year later, he married his high school sweetheart, Adeline Lange. He worked in the oil refining industry in Corpus Christi for over 45 years, where he counseled and mentored many of his co-workers.

Eddie Phillips was preceded in death by his parents Alma and Ray Phillips, his sister Catherine Phillips Doss, his brother Ray B. Phillips, Jr., and one grandson, Michael King. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Adeline Lange Phillips, his children, Debra ( Terry) McCown, Jean ( Bill ) King, Rodney ( Sheryl) Phillips, and Jodi (Darrell )Kirksey. Other survivors include his brother Chester E. Phillips and wife Ellie, ten grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6231 Bandera Rd., San Antonio from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 6, 2017. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 7, at 9:30 a.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church, 8300 Tezel Rd., San Antonio. The graveside service in Corpus Christi will be at Robstown Memorial Park, 4607 FM 1889, Robstown, Texas, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, followed by visitation with family at Calallen Baptist Church, 13505 IH-37 Access Road, Corpus Christi, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church in San Antonio or Calallen Baptist Church in Corpus Christi.
